There is an infamous case of copyright infringement where a man wrote a fictional book. He was entitled to make profits from the sale of his books. Someone plagiarized his book, and called their modified version of the story "The Diary of Anne Frank" they published the book claiming that it was a true story. The publisher used their influence to force governments around the world to purchase millions of copies of the book, and put them in all libraries, and every classroom.
There has never been a more blatant case of copyright infringement, they did not even offer to pay the original author a dime.
The original author had to sue them, and while they made over a trillion dollars, from sales of the stolen book, the original author was only awarded a pittance.
His original book was a comedy about a poor girl who grew up in a small loft apartment, sharing one room with her entire family, anf her jokes about her father farting constantly were hilarious, although they were omitted in the Anne Frank pirated version of the story.
None could argue that the author would have made a trillion dollars from sales of his original story, but he did win in court, and was compensated thanks to an honest jury, but he deserved a lot more than what he was awarded by the court.
