even if ukrainian is a made up synthetic language as you claim, it was made before Russian Empire fell and commies massively simplified russian. So yes, it is in fact preserving norms of that time
And if you think vocative case is made up then explain why do many other slavic languages have it (serbian, polish, czeck etc.) and even russian used to have it (reflected in ycтoявшиecя фpaзы типa /oтчe, бoжe, etc./)
