In my case, I have discovered ways to camouflage myself but also have been through enough to know that at any point one can get their attention. also there are always different groups interested - some are 'associated', some are independent, some surveil covertly and some out in the open. for the most part they all are able to share (or steal) info from each other. you don't
I'll share some of my own experience. I have also been gangstalked for my psychic-related abilities, but the first time i experienced a version of zersetzung was pizzagate related, it happened because i wasn't using enough opsec online. some friends played a show at comet ping pong - when i was in the green room chilling with them i felt someone watching me, and i looked up and it was james fucking alefantis himself, standing the doorway, staring with his arms folded. i didn't recognize him at first, but when he saw me looking at him he looked away and left the room. it wasn't until much afterward i realized what happened and started connecting a whole bunch of dots related to weird shit that had been happening around me (super-aggressive drivers, people vandalizing my property and such).
i have many other stories, but that's the one that tipped me off that gangstalking was becoming a huge problem, and that was back in like 2017 or 2018.
