>So why not Singapore or elite areas of KL like Damansara Heights?
It's a good question and I'll author an answer both for myself and you. Should help me get organized.

I think there is a lot of lifestyle range between brokies w/a $300-500 SEA studio that only do <= $10 dates before a pump&dump (and have no bankroll for kid/house/much more) and going full on singapore lifestyle.

I'm personally cool with $1500-2000 rent. Could I afford $3-4k? ya, but I certainly start "thinking about it". I also comfortably spend $20-40 eating out per day and I like to have a nice vehicle when settled down somewhere. I don't do a ton of shopping though. Fashion expenditure is probably a weak area of mine. I even had filipinas styling me up when I arrived in asia (sign that I was lacking lol)

I'll admit i've never even visited singapore but I have been to hong kong. I feel like, with singapore, I'd not only need to live the cost, but also live the lifestyle. That is, could I really fit in as that dude working his USA job at night? I can do that in manila/bangkok, but is a sg gal going to be into that?
I ultimately think I'd rather be non-cheap with a cheap/frugal gal than spendy with a gal that needs that as her min. A sliding scale type gal.

Damansara Heights and Kuala Lumpur overall catch my attention more. I should look into something like this. If I were to guess my best fit, it would be an (upper) middle class neighborhood of a (S)EA country that isn't the full on upper class crust/elite of society, but an industrious middle class enclave; perhaps a productive ethnic minority that thrive off of small-med business rather than pure connections/fed gov't roles.

Pircrel is influential in my thinking on this, but I haven't made headway on setting it up. Been in my comfort zone the past year or so. Thoughts?
