It doesn't matter if people rail against him for being a bad protag (which he's not) or that he's talking to essentially the real final boss of the series and winning. He's shown to be the more strategic one, and like you said he would start the dialogue with understanding the Brothers' psyche with what they are trying to accomplish. Plus, and this has dropped off since Monty died and the show has just been Simpsonfied where it just zombies on for the sake of zombieing on, it fulfills his allusion to Joan of Arc by talking to God(s).
