They don't run like shit. It has frame issues when it shouldn't, but a lot of AA JRPGs are like that. The Trails games run a lot better than the Ryza games, for example. The back up data thing is bullshit, I agree but I sometimes delete back up saves from the console, especially for games where I don't mind starting fresh again, like the NieR ones.
If the Daybreak games run worse than that's really disheartening lol
