maybe, i think it went well for rosario (picrel), went from one of these generic crests to this
you can still see the former generic crest inside the C but it doesn't looks lame now
a lot of them are just too historic and recognizable to justify the redesign i feel like but using an approach similar to this (adding details to a super simple, boring and same-y crest) could both let people who want to keep the old crest because of tradition and people that want something that doesn't looks like dogshit happy
