transformers as a whole is a tale of capitalism crashing against the realities of making art. it would be an insane ploy to kill off your most popular characters, introduce new ones and an extremely important plot device within 20 minutes, but that's what the movie did. because they wanted to make more money, because they didn't make the toy molds anymore. i don't think they fully understood the role of emotional investment in consumerism yet.

i feel like g1 especially, the designs feel like, maybe they just shuffled all the toys in a group, separated the group in half, and just arbitrarily said "these are the good guys, these are the bad guys"
