The Magical Girls are about finding hope despite being faced with the Despair that pushes them over the brink, something Urobutcher would never allow in his works to begin with. It could always be a reference to multiple things anyways so I'll give you that. facing despair that come with being a meguca face and overcoming said despair through friendship/hope wouldn't be mutually exclusive.

I wonder why people even believe that Eva "deconstructs" mecha lol. Gundam featured child soldiers since it's inception, Getter had cosmic horror with it's mechas and being character-driven isn't something that started with Evangelion.
