Pendulums were overrated to be broken but their inclusion also made the newer archetypes get faster to compensate to the point the summonings had balance to them in the Duelist Alliance era. Even by the end of Arc-V when they started breaking conventions and stopped putting limiters it wasn’t as bad.
Then they released the Links which retards assumed it’d slow the game because they restricted Extra deck summonings by Links (in a clear mean to cripple everyone and force then to buy new packs) but Links themselves were level-less Synchros. It was obvious from a glance it wouldn’t take long for then to kickstart an even worse meta of high speed board making.
With more speed, more summons and bigger boards, the banlists couldn’t keep up, the anti-meta grew to buklshit levels accordingly with hand-traps and unstoppable spells, Extra Decks got their summoning capacity back but by then now we are in this cancer meta for good
