The pandering to Western have taken a more serious turn lately, see the recent majo Gundam "witch from mercury" or something, they tried so hard to make a diverse cast of skin colors and genders (also "positively" fat characters) it comes off as comically forced, not to mention the constant talk about discrimination and 3rd world immigration equivalence (people from earth and mercury etc. seen as lower cast, reminded of it and bullied all episode long, characters go to earth to do some charity acts) and ofc main character is a girl just like the many traditionally men-led animes and mangas.
