East vs. West is another false dichotomy, and it didn't even exist until the rise of Islam centuries later. There was only the med, and they exchanged cultural ideas all the time. The Greeks were the first to become very educated and articulate, so their teachings spread.

Rome, Judea, Egypt, etc all influenced by Hellenic thought. However some of these cultures died out and some continued. Hellenic thought continues in Roman Catholicism, and Jewish religious thought. So if you are allied to "pagan" ideals, you should see them as allies, not enemies.

We should try to revive these traditions.
