I hope you checked the in-game commands manual, because you will mostly fight using F ( heavy atk) to kill enemies. You are going to mostly lure enemies in circle, get them to start atk animation, move above a little enough to dodge, get back and press F, cycle repeat. At night you could go to their camps and capture some NPCs ( again, use F )with the wooden club that deals stun dmg so you can capture your target.

From here on you get to build slowly a community that will defend itself, you can also capture wolves and such, investing in heavy atk skill is good if you want quickier fights
