The Canaanite religion predates Canaan. Earliest connection is to the Akkadians, the very first empire. They had a proto-semitic language. After conquering the Sumerians, (inventors of everything) they raised a lesser female goddess to the top of their pantheon, astarra or ishtar it's always similar. This goddess was associated with taking over the domains of other deities. Her priests were men that dressed like women and took it up the ass. Carthage was also "Canaanite". Tanit is a fertility goddess and their entire religion revolves around sacrificing children. This religion continues in secret today.
