Arguably eggs aren't that great in large amounts due to the yolk and some steak cuts can be quite fatty which limits your options for other foods if you dont want to exceed the kcals.

Significantly less =/= none. People ate a lot of non-vegan foods in the past, with a substantially larger part of the diet not being made up of lean meat but other animal parts.
