I actually ran the one-shot tonight and it went really well. My players dug the mystery and liked the twist on dealing with a sympathetic witch for once. During the first round of the final combat with the Star Vampire, one player went insane and went blind as a result and another had his shotgun blow up in his hands due to rolling a Nat 100 and then failing a luck roll.
Despite this, three out of the four PCs lived, even with me rolling that the Star Vampire knew a spell, getting Grasp of Cthulhu (which was how it killed the one PC. Cast the spell on him to immobilize him, then attacked with a bonus die and got an impale, tearing off his head).
I think I'm gonna try taking this to cons to I can run something other players won't be used to/have foreknowledge of.
