Same situation 3 years ago, left Ottawa to lead a settled life in Alberta.
Here's the steps you'll need to take:
1. Go shop for a used car NOW. Find a decent one that wont break down on the trip to Alberta. Get it safetied, registred and insured right away, don't wait.
Get a hatchback, station wagon or crossover because it'll give you more room to carry stuff in the back. When you pack your car, layer it: stuff you're least likely to need on the bottom, most likely on the top.
2: Figure out where you want to go, mid size town is best. DO NOT GO TO EDMONTON OR CALGARY, YOU MIGHT AS WELL STAY IN TORONTO.
Red Deer, Grande Prairie, Fort McMurray are decent. Try applying for jobs before you leave, but don't expect to be taken seriously on your applications until after you've moved.
3: Trip is about 5 days depending how fast you go. I went Ottawa-SaultStMarie-ThunderBay-Steinbach-Saskatoon-Edmonton.
4. Have an AirB&B booked for your arrival wherever you're going. Try to secure housing as fast as possible, be warned: most places wont let you rent if you're not employed. You may have to pick up grocery store or similar work temporarily to secure a lease. Start sending out resumés to serious jobs like oilfield once you've arrived in town.
5. With any luck you'll have a decent job and a roof over your head pretty quickly.
Remember this: You left Ontario for a reason. Leave your stupid Ontario city liberal politics behind, don't talk about how things were better in Ontario, or how much you miss Toronto. Vote for Smith. Support oil and gas. Don't try to turn this province into another east coast cesspit.
