Different factions of leftoids have different responses to this, but the basic idea is that hierarchy and class are not the same thing. Obviously complex social organization requires hierarchy in order to function, the problem is when this ossifies into certain groups of people (classes) hogging and feeling entitled to resources and power for their own benefit at the expense of the collective (i.e., economic exploitation)
