NTA, but he's kind of right. If you select a search field, regular Firefox on PC will show an icon at the start of the search field that allows you to add custom search engines.
Maybe they're talking about any search field, not necessarily a search engine, in which case it can still be done in a convoluted manner by right-clicking and selecting "Add a Keyword for this Search" in the context menu. But this also requires bookmarking the page. It does work just like a regular search engine from there on, I use it to quickly search Desuarchive for example. Still, it's good if Firefox wants to make this easier to do, most people probably install extensions in order to add search engines.
