Eiji Toyoda was a Japanese businessman, who served as president and later chairman of Toyota Motor Company. During his tenure as chairman, he oversaw the company’s merger with Toyota Motor Sales Co., Ltd, which was then renamed as Toyota Motor Corporation. He was also a member of the Trilateral Commission.

Eiji Toyoda was the son of Heikichi Toyoda and Nao Toyoda, making him a direct descendant of the elite Toyoda bloodline. Eiji’s uncle, Sakichi Toyoda, was the founder of the family’s textile company, then named Toyoda Automatic Loom Works. Sakichi’s son, Kiichiro Toyoda, transitioned the company from textile production towards automotive manufacturing, thus establishing Toyota Motor Company. He became the company’s first vice president then later its president.

Eiji’s cousin-in-law, Rizaburo Toyoda, became the first president of the Toyota Motor Company. Shoichiro Toyoda, Kiichiro’s first born son, served as chairman of Toyota Motor Corporation from 1992 to 1999. He was also chairman of the influential Japan Business Federation from 1994 to 1998. Tatsuro Toyoda, Kiichiro’s younger son, served in various roles at including Honorary chairman of the Toyota Foundation, Senior advisor and member of the board of Toyota Central R&D Labs, and Chairman of the board of Toyota Technological Institute. Today, Akio Toyoda, Shoichiro Toyoda’s son, serves as chairman of Toyota Motor Corporation, having previously worked as the company's president and chief executive officer.
