Seaslug haven't fixed how covers work after 2 years nor released an aux unit, and with the way logis work now you can't even have some flexibility to use them to buff old characters. Unless they make some support that benefits some of them like when WiFenny released and made Ethereal Chen viable for a few months.
Honestly a 4* to 5* conversion would be a nice testing ground to work on a retrofit system for snobble but I don't see that coming until next year or more.
