no, it stays easy the entire time. Even this funny side mission is full of basic enemies that aren't difficult to kill. There are some hard enemy groups in the arena and in post game but they're all single fights so it more feels like a puzzle to make a team that beats them more than a strategy game.
I do still think the team building is fun, there just isn't much that makes it feel necessary.
