I think the level suggestion is based on random students with no strategy. Just matching attack/defense let's you beat levels 10 levels below suggested easily.

I think higher level event stages are better in terms of rewards/ap but only slightly. Often lower are better to sweep since you can use specialized students which are often ones you've neglected ever since level 55 when you have to get strategic with growth materials.
