>“That’s it?” You scoff, eyebrows raised in amazement. “You’ve been away from home for three years. Away from your family. Fighting a secret war against four powerful sages that are the descendants of an ancient advanced civilization…because she asked you to?”
“Yes, what of it?” Bronte asks, getting up and stretching out her limbs, seemingly exhausted from her endless explaining. “You know as well as I that our family never spoke of what they did during the war. Any time the subject was broached, they were quick to change topics. But I could see plainly, as well as you could I’m sure, that whatever they were involved with affected them greatly. My mother always tried to instill in us the importance of doing what was right. And of remaining loyal to your friends. I believe when it came to these two principles, she was greatly put to the test. Here I am now in the same predicament. Yes, I could leave Yulia to her fate, but that would not be the right thing to do. And I will not abandon my friend.”
>“That’s surprisingly bullheaded coming from you.”
“Now, who do you think I learned that from?” She smiles warmly.
>“Well, I have one more question. Perhaps the most important of all. You’ve seen Yulia. Face to face. Perhaps the only person alive who has. You’ve got me thousands of miles away, fighting a war you’ve brought me into. I have to know. Is she pretty?”
“Tristain, what?” Bronte staggers back, all manner of composure lost.
>“You heard me! Is she pretty? Or is she at least my type?”
Bronte thinks for a moment, rubbing her chin lost in thought. The room grows still, the silence deafening, as you wait for your cousin to give you her verdict.
“Truth be told…” Bronte mutters. “I’ve…never quite actually understood what your ‘type’ was…?”
