Our public education is shitty.
>only serious focus is on reading, writing, math, and science (only the mathematic parts) because that is all our national test focus on
>other classes are treated as babysitting by admin so they don’t pay attention and teachers can go really in-depth or fuck around to no serious result either way
>kids aren’t encouraged to retain information or think just recite formulas for correct answers
>most classes aren’t even offered like civics, economics, home ec

As a history teacher our expected lesson flow is fucked.

>time jump to colonies
>talk about the most basic ass causes of the revolution
>barely talk about the actual revolution
>time skip to pre civil war
>slavery bad slavery bad slavery bad slavery bad
>talk about industrialization and the turn of the century
>skip to WWI and spend a day or two at most on it
>talk about the depression
>skip to WW2
>only Hitler was evil and invaded everything to kill Jews for no reason
>state mandated to make the entire section about the holocaust
>maybe make it to civil rights movement
>end of school year

Now we only get a 180 days to cover this, but the priorities of both the mandated standards and schools constantly interrupting teachers to do stupid shit are fucked
