A quote that feels relavent to the situation here is from C.S. Lewis' "Till We Have Faces" in which the protagonist is describing a love she bore for a close friend she knew nearly all her life. The context is different, but I believe it fits
>"Did I hate him, then? Indeed, I believe so. A love like that can grow to be nine-tenths hatred and still call itself love."

Angie's mind is all wrapped up in this man who has been physically beating her for apparently years. When faced with a chance to get away from his influence, she takes it, perhaps because she mostly hates him and still calls it love. Note, also, that the men she is "choosing" over him are not strictly important. They both have exhibited some strange behavior before in front of her, especially daniel that night when he was flirting very awkwardly, sometimes aggressively, and often getting physical. What we see later in the night is also telling. When he asks for a blanket, her response is to invite physical aggression. "Come and take it," she says, like an ancap retard. This is because despite her wanting to be free of her abuser's grasp, she still has no way of actual freeing herself from that mindset. She instead invites another to be agressive with her. Very strange, yet somehow understandable, behavior
Angelika's mind may have been working on levels so complex they are impossible to see
