I think a good chunk of it died when SJ bombed and the last aspects of it was in SMT4/4A, with 4A removing the side quests focusing on it. Nocturne had human sacrificing and on screen brutality with the manakins. I wouldn't call it absent of occultism even if you ignore the maniax editions.
