I think in the case of this guy at least, he was seething about TT starting to deny copyright applications out of the blue. This was a week after he poked fun at the Precure sculptors when Toei started turning the screws on them. Meanwhile the gook gacha companies are almost Touhou-level permissive with letting fans make and sell statues. Their fanwork policies are probably part of why they got so popular with fanartists in general.
