I didn't have too many issues in-person and especially not when I was in uniform there. The worst, if you can call it that, interaction was when I was traveling the local area and got the "X" gesture from a door guard near a pachinko bar which means "We don't want foreigners in here, go away."
After a couple of months I started to pick up on subtle but noticeable ways that they show disdain. Its something you have to experience for yourself to understand but its very minor inflections, how long they hold a greeting or pose or smile. For instance I said something like
>"Excuse me, where is the water?"
in the best Japanese I could while in a ramen place and the waiter didn't even look up he just pointed at the dispenser and that was just a clear sign he hated me.
My black friend at the time had it worse. The japs would ALWAYS address me first at restaurants or at shops. We often joked that if there was ever a fire or car crash they'd leave him in the car and save me first.
Anyways they were garbage at the game. Absolute dogshit at the game. Lots of Koreans were playing on there too since the server had JUST opened (you couldn't even play ranked outside of the weekend) and it was just a mess. I was getting accounts to level 20 something and then getting banned for typing in english. I'd have more respect if they'd not hide behind a computer about it but that's their culture.
