You’re facing a scary open hand, which is likely mangan+ tenpai, given the kan. The key feature from toimen’s pond to notice is aka 5s -> 2s tedashi order, which is one of the most important discard reading patterns to know. Everything afterwards has been tsumogiri, which is negligible.

In sanma, maximising efficiency is the standard play, so tedashi 5 generally makes urasuji 14 and 69 more dangerous.
In Miinin’s “Data Sanma” book (the SMS of sanma), he states that the 5->2 discard pattern before riichi has a 24% deal-in rate on musuji 1, even higher than regular double musuji 456 at 19%. Given that it was an aka 5 cut, the theoretical deal-in rate is probably significantly higher.

Even though tracking tedashi/tsumogiri isn’t easy, it’s warranted in this case as toimen ponned haku early. Constantly noting the most recent tedashi(s) for just one open player is feasible even at an intermediate level.

Personally, the minor lead is what seals the deal for 1s or 4s not being worth pushing for 2 han ryanmen. Rather than hard folding, it’s most feasible to mawashi with 9p and incorporate 1s/4s for dama ittsuu.

This isn’t my game, but I thought it was a good example of how hand reads can influence even tenpai decisions. The latest book to be translated on the repo, Discard Reading Book 1, generally focuses on hand reading to guide iishanten decisions.

Doraless kanchan riichi might potentially be worse in sanma, as the oikake rate is higher.
However, it's stressed repeatedly in Data Sanma that breaking tenpai for a better wait in sanma is MUCH worse than in yonma. Generally, not even an inner yonrenkei shape is worth a wait improvement, as your win rate always drops by delaying. Breaking tenpai should be done to improve value instead. In League, almost all anons will wait one turn before riichi, but this would be suicide in speed-focused sanma.
