Statement by the Russian Foreign Ministry regarding Israeli strikes on Iranian territory:
"We express our extreme concern over the dangerous escalation of tensions in the Middle East.
We strongly condemn the use of force by the State of Israel in violation of the Charter of the United Nations and international law on the night of June 13.
Unprovoked military strikes against a sovereign UN member state, its citizens, peaceful cities, and nuclear energy infrastructure are categorically unacceptable. The international community cannot remain indifferent to such atrocities, which destroy peace and undermine regional and international security.
What makes this even more cynical is that the Israeli attacks happened right in the middle of the IAEA Board of Governors meeting and just before the next round of indirect talks between Iran and the US. Thus, the multilateral efforts initiated with considerable difficulty to reduce confrontation and find solutions that would eliminate any suspicions and prejudices regarding Iran's peaceful use of nuclear energy have been undermined and set back.
