This was not the case until about 5 minutes ago. Both men (typically fathers) and women (mothers, who again were being guided by men) would select for which men would be candidates to mate and breed with young women. The unilateral control women have today is rare, and typically indicates a level of prosperity and safety that allows for extremely delusional beliefs to seem reasonable, until the effects of those delusional beliefs cause harsher conditions to return.
