It was way too big for what it was capable of. Sure, it worked, but it would require complete air superiority, heavy SEAD operations, and good weather to really be effective. Even then, its general inability to target fast, agile targets generally limit it to being used against exclusively ballistic missiles in their launch/boost phase.
