Because they hard focus on countries like the United States where Churches don't have to pay taxes, which means they have virtually no cost overhead, they have an extremely elaborate donation network, where much of that money is funneled directly to the Vatican. The Catholic Church is also the worlds largest "charitable" organization, most of which is just an excuse for them to exercise soft power and build larger donation networks. They also have completely uncontested reign over a couple of city blocks in Italy. It would be more impressive if they WEREN'T as powerful as they are. The Church is a massive scam
