Fine I'll bite but mostly because I have a friend that also seems to hate any sort of bad/sad ending and your reasoning reminds me of him so it's not unreasonable to believe you are being genuine.
Good writing means no inconsistencies, no contrivances, no plot holes, no shortcuts, no cheapness of any kind. Good writing doesn't mean "it makes me feel better" because my real life is shit, it means it delivers on the promise it made with the given story and plot and in Edgerunner's case, there was absolutely nothing there that implied things will turn out allright in the long term. Could you have done a happy Cyberpunk story? Sure you could, but this thread is about "edgerunners", the Cyberpunk equivalent to real world PMC or cartel work and if you want to find out what can happen there when things go wrong and you get caught, I'd say visit liveleak but it no longer exists though /gif/ has threads from time to time.
I also enjoy my time with anything I watch be it sad or happy so long as it has good writing and if I'm being pretentious, something else to pull me in like the setting, the sakuga or just the overall mood. Whatever you feel about negative emotions is a YOU problem, you can call me a psychopath for enjoying tragedies but I relate to them in my own way.
Now to go back to the part where I said you remind me of my friend, he's bit of a pussy emotionally and would feel down or even flat out depressed from things that to me are non issues, and I'm talking about real life issues here not animu, things that also happened to me. Not all people are made equval, in spite of what your communist teachers taught you in school American-kun.
