If you bothered to read the article, you would see this has been increasing for the past 25 years. There is no spike in 2020.

The reason is exposure to microplastics in food and drink and loosely regulated environmental poisons like PFAS.

Unfortunately governments seem to give zero fucks about regulating this, even though it's quickly becoming an emergency.
