just as real life, no one is trans because trans is not a real thing.
just people getting convinced that instead of issue being society forcing conformity, it's them being born wrong.
so instead of fighting society and conformism they get roped into an extremely conformist, sexist, self hating cult.

all the characters getting groomed is just the part of the brainwashing, since people who relate to those characters are prime targets (non conforming), making the characters "trans", you make those people question themselves.
