I'm not totally sure, I think it's just the natural way their teeth splay as their bones grow and they usually die before it becomes an issue. Horses tend to get pretty sharp canines and wolf teeth as they get older, probably to protect their young. If you keep horses domestically you will likely need to grind down your horse's teeth manually because domestic horses tend to have a more grain-rich diet (normally this wouldn't need to be done in the wild because their teeth would naturally get ground down by chewing rough soil while they graze). If you don't grind their teeth down they are at risk of cutting the insides of their mouths on them.

Horses require a surprising amount of dental work.
