Guys, you're overthinking it. Simply put: The creator originally intended Lily and Jack to be step-siblings, just like his own IRL kids. For some reason, he changed his mind late in development, or maybe the network forced him to, which is why all this stuff doesn’t fit the new narrative. But it would’ve been easily explained had Nick kept them as step-siblings.
