Soldier Accused of Stealing From Comrade on Trans-Siberian Route
A Russian serviceman is under investigation after allegedly stealing 80,000 rubles (approx. $880) from a fellow soldier's bank account while they were passengers on a long-distance train.
The incident reportedly took place this July aboard the Kislovodsk-Tynda passenger train. According to investigators, Valery Abramenko, a 30-year-old soldier from the Irkutsk region, took the mobile phone of his fellow passenger, 45-year-old serviceman Alexander Pustyrsky.
Authorities allege that Abramenko then used a banking app on the phone to transfer the 80,000 rubles from Pustyrsky's account directly into his own.
The victim is reportedly assigned to military unit 00991 based in Kansk, while the suspect serves with unit 45863. Authorities are now deciding whether to file formal criminal charges in the matter.
