the kanji that make up the name for daisy / hinagiku mean something like "baby chrysanthemum" since I daisies sort of look like smaller chrysanthemums. the "hina" is the same word as in hinamatsuri or hina dolls, basically meaning something small / not fully grown yet, and "kiku" / "giku" is a chrysanthemum.
