Kitanya and Nina debuted very close to holoEN1 debuts, and were culturally holo inspired. Indie culture from back then was also a shared culture, an offshoot of /hlg/ and /vyt/ (the first proto-indie thread). Back then there were barely any relevant indies and no /lig/dom or even /wvt/dom. Nina and Kitanya kept the same style of vtubing as time went on, specially Kitanya.
Nina had a terrible experience with a male collab (Omi) and sweared off male collabs. Kitanya kept being full seiso and holo inspired. Shondo, despite coming from the ASMR scene and not wanting into Holo (besides for the LL events), is a huge CGDCT idolfag, and reinforced the same cultural bubble.
Inis and Nina knew each other, collabed ages ago before Barbies, and live close to each other, so she joined. (Soya and Freya are similar too in that sense, besides being IRL friends of Nina).
Vivi is one of Shondo's oldest friends, from her OG ASMR group, and while she doesn't share the cultural zeitgeist, she fit in as the cool aunt otaku. Oli is a bit of an outlier too, but she's barbie-coded IRL and she shares with the rest the wish to support and improve men's lives (she sometimes feels like an autism social worker).
The spirit of the barbies had an idol-ish soul and never was whore (non derogatory) or normie (derogatory) coded.
