When both sides of your family are Christian and you've been praying to Jesus since you were 4 or 5, it get pretty ingrained into you. I don't think it's an intellectual failure to be afraid of God / eternal punishment. I've been concerned about the salvation of my soul ever since I was young. Being with a succubus requires me to dismantle my entire previous worldview and create a new one, betraying my family in the process. Many people can't do that

I'm not the only person who struggles with this. I think I'm a harder animal to tame than most and I can take pride in knowing that I didn't fold immediately. I think it takes strength to reject a succubus multiple times, even if that strength is born from fear and self preservation.
