He sees himself getting cut down by Ichigo's original shikai, he interprets it as just a bad dream because he knows that isn't what Ichigo's weapon looks like anymore, it makes no sense, and he would be correct. That's how Kubo outsmarted him, by having something happen that makes no sense.
