It really should. Decades of experimentation and development under the guise of a "space race" to drop projectiles that even if they're inert have enough kinetic energy to level a structure with meters of precision halfway around the world.
The scope of nuclear warfare is hard to get across and the picture just barely starts to do it, we've all been to a beach and have some idea how expansive the field of clouds is in front of us... it reminds us how small we are, and how big the earth is, and the incandescent trails left by the MIRVs just skip in an out of the cloud-tops in a matter of milliseconds.
Then imagine a "bikini atoll" at the end of each trail.
It's awesome (but for real).
