Not really. The idea of the scarab combines a bunch of cool ideas, being kind of like a symbiote and power armor, but the whole concept is muddied by being magic then was changed to being some alien sci-fi tech indistinguishable from magic. Take the scarab away from Jaime and there really isn't anything interesting about him.
