Using headphones/earphones when you care about sound quality makes a lot of practical sense, can sound very good and be very cost effective depending on what you choose.
I just couldn't recommend something like the pebbles as someone's PRIMARY listening device, especially without the sub. It's not about being a quality snob, it's just that you can't hear ~3 of the 10 octaves with these things, AT ALL. ~30% of the audible spectrum gone. It's directly analogous to using a black and white tv (or more accurately, one that can only display red and blue but not green). Yeah, you can enjoy watching a black and white TV, and I didn't hate on my grandpa when he was still using one in 2007.
That's kinda what I mean when I talk about a bare minimum of speakers. I'm perfectly happy having a 1080p SDR screen. Most of what I watch is mastered in that format. I can enjoy shows on my modest monitor knowing I don't have the best color accuracy, but I can at least see all the information in most shows adequately. I'm not an OLED snob, but having color is a minimum standard for me, I would not use a black and white TV.
Too bad I cannot help you find a better speaker because of geographical differences. It's not easy to get something good, small, and cheap.
Like I said, patiently waiting for a good opportunity in your local used listings is the best way to get something good for a budget. I just don't know what brands and models will be good in your area. Once you're paying for fees and shipping on ebay it's rare you get a good deal.
