Too complicated, too many moving parts, doesn't take kindly to dirt, plus isn't really field serviceable.
It was replaced by the Walther P38 and the German army ran with it from the late 30s into the early 90s. It's also pretty recognizable.
By the way the th in "Walther" is pronounced like the th in "Thomas".
