The contact points are far weaker than tree supports. Go ahead and print it and you'll see; they separate off a lot easier and with much less damage as a result. The organic shape of tree supports create less surface contact but where that contact exists leaves a much stronger contact force.

Pic related is one I did recently; with/without normal supports. Literally the only cleanup I had to do was around the mouth and that was all of ten seconds with a file. If I tried the same with tree supports I'd be sanding and filing the underside so much that it'd still look like shit, after.
