What happens to a Neopet when it is left alone?
When it becomes worn and aged and the glint in its eye fades? When it goes for too long uncared for?
What does it think of? What does it dream?
How does it regard the person who created it? Pried it into existence only to abandon it, when it's entertainment no longer satisfied them?
It may grow lonesome. It may stare for long hours into the dark voids of its own empty web page and see shadows. And its heart may jump as it thinks: "Here! Here's someone again, I'm not alone!"
And each time it is wrong. And the hurt starts over.
It may find itself inventing ghosts to walk its page, making friends with its shadow puppets. Laughing and whispering to itself at the end of some lonesome, forgotten link.
It may grow angry. It's mind may fill with churning acid, just like it's empty stomach. And it's gorge may rise as it asks itself through clenched teeth: "What did I do wrong!?"
It may grow bitter. It may grow hungry. So hungry and so bitter that it's scruples dissolve and its account unlocks itself.
And while a Neopet may hunger, it can not starve.
And so in fever and anger and loneliness, it may simply lie in wait:
